Reset! is the European network of independent cultural and media organisations, created in 2022 in Lyon, France.
The network exists and works to connect independent cultural and media organisations together, document our situation across Europe and beyond, equip its members with knowledge and practical tool, as well as to advocate for independence to be recognised as a core value in the cultural and media sectors.
Reset! acknowledges that independent cultural and media organisations find themselves in an overall fragile situation, facing specific challenges that imply precise needs. Our independence is our greatest strength but can also be a weakness: it gives us the freedom to act as we wish, but it can limit our ability to secure funding and continue our activities.
Reset! considers a cultural or media organisation to be independent if it is not under the full control of public authorities, nor affiliated with or fully dependent on large private corporations. This implies a diversified economic model with funding streams from multiple sources, creating an interdependent model that ensures autonomy in practice.
The four pillars of the network:
- Developing professional opportunities and cooperation between members and networks.
- Raising awareness of the challenges facing Europe’s independent cultural and media sectors.
- Providing network members with tools to address contemporary challenges facing the sectors (e.g. ecology, underrepresented communities representation and inclusion, international cooperation, economic model consolidation, digital issues).
- Contributing to the co-construction of new public policies that address contemporary issues and are adapted to the independent cultural and media sectors.
Since its creation, Reset! receives co-funding from the European Union through the Creative Europe programme. The remainder of its funding comes from the founding organisation, the independent non-profit organisation Arty Farty.

MARCH 2024
Publication of Reset! Atlas
Reset! presented its Atlas of Independent Culture and Media, a developed and expanded version of the extensive editorial work carried out through two years of work embodied in the organisation of 64 workshops across the continent and a significant documentation effort compiled into articles, interviews, and newsletters.
The body of work was intended as a sensitive cartography of independent realities in Europe. Divided into two parts, it aims both to explore specific situations across the continent in a collection of articles, interviews, and varied portraits divided in 8 topic-based volumes (Part 1), and to argue for improvements and developments in the funding systems and in the recognition processes of independent cultural and media structures on a European scale (Part 2).
APRIL 2024
Reset! General Assembly and Forum
Reset! held its General Assembly at its member Laboratorium’s space in Skopje, North Macedonia. More than 50 members met to reflect on the road ahead for the cultural and media sector, deepen our shared understanding, and strengthen the collective foundations of our network.
The General Assembly was followed by a public forum aiming to address key challenges faced by the independent sector. Through talks, workshops, networking sessions and musical performances, the day was imagined as a meeting point to amplify the voices of independent culture and media scenes across Europe.
RESET!’S GOVERNANCE IS DESIGNED TO RESPECT PRINCIPLES OF DIVERSITY & EQUALITY, BOTH IN TERMS OF GEOGRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION AND SECTORS COVERED
The network is first and foremost made of a General Assembly (GA) composed of all members. It is divided in three bodies;
The independent cultural and media organisations (right to vote)
The resource structures (no right to vote)
The local public institutions (no right to vote)
The GA physically gathers once a year.
We then operate under the strategic supervision and guidance of an Executive Committee (EC) composed of 10 cultural workers elected among and by our members and of 2 members of the coordination team. The EC’s composition aims to be as balanced as possible in terms of territorial and gender representation. The current EC was elected in 2025. Each EC member has a mandate of one year, that can be automatically renewed for a second and final year. The EC meets online every two months and in-person twice a year.
